The management team and lack of recognition

    1.1

Manager on duty at Torrid, June 2025

  • Best thing

Building a safe space for people of all sizes is the highlight of the job, as well as making connections with those both similar and different to yourself. Helping people find the right fit is always a special feeling, especially when you yourself have gone through a similar or even the same experience.

    Worst thing

HQ is ran by people who don’t understand what happens in stores. They set online prices lower than the in-store prices and expect customers to still come in to shop. Customers get frustrated about it all the time because the consistency is nonexistent.

Pay is ridiculously low for all that you’re expected to do, especially as management, but even as an associate. Our starting pay has hardly changed despite our team’s begging for understanding when it comes to our city’s price of living rising.

$10 for associates is hardly enough to put the THERAPY in retail therapy. You’re expected to help others feel confident while they actively point out traits that they find ugly about themselves that you possibly share with them. Corporate overlooks that this is even a struggle to begin with. At the end of the day, we’re expected to shrug off anything that makes us feel bad about ourselves, and separate our work-self from our actual self.

Lastly, lack of accommodations. We’re a plus size store for plus size people, yet we’re expected to be on our feet constantly. It doesn’t have much of an effect on myself, but definitely on some of my coworkers. Not being able to keep water bottles at the register, hidden or not, is a ridiculous rule that wastes time.

I love this brand and wish for their success, but it’s going to be impossible to reach it if they keep focusing on meaningless things that no one cares about. They refuse to listen to employees and their customer base. It’s a fun job if you don’t get too invested like yours truly lol.
