Job Description

A Day in the Life 

  • The role of Security Officers at all Munson Healthcare facilities is to ensure a safe and secure environment for all patients, visitors, employees, and providers. Security Officers provide a security presence throughout the facility to maintain order, monitor activity to identify and report potential risks, prevent accidents and/or injuries and to deter harmful activity such as theft, vandalism, and violence. Security Officers contribute to maintaining a positive environment through consistent high quality customer service.
  • Meets, greets and assists patients and their families as needed. Understands and demonstrates key strategies for effective customer service.
  • Performs escorts for employees and visitors. Establishes positive rapport with all staff, particularly ED staff, to promote team environment. Monitors visitor traffic into the ED.
  • Monitor’s visitor entrance, waiting areas, main entrance, and ambulance entrance through frequent rounding. Patrols designated areas in and around the campus, including visual and physical checks of buildings located on or near the premises. Patrols all parking lots and enforces parking regulations outlined in the parking policy.
  • Investigates and prepares clear, concise, and thorough incident reports. Reports any unsafe situation or equipment according to Hospital procedure. 
  • Demonstrates competency in monitoring of security systems including access control, security cameras and fire alarm systems. Responds to facility security issues and works to mitigate associated risks. Responds to all emergency codes. Responds to emergency pages.  
  • Utilizes strategies to prevent or respond to workplace violence situations. Identifies opportunities to de-escalate and promote positive outcomes. Identifies potentially violent individuals (patients, visitors etc.) and assists with diverting negative behaviors. Responds to violent situations (“Security Alert - Gray Team”) and takes lead from the clinical staff.
  • Security is to take lead from clinical staff if they are requested for an observation in ED due to the fact that, when a patient is in observation, the possibility of physically acting out exists, danger to self or others, or presents an elopement risk. Security is to take lead from clinical staff with applying the least restrictive restraint to control combative patients. 
  • Demonstrates competency in the following: 
    • High level of awareness of the potential for terrorist activities. 
    • Lock-down procedures and operation of the automated locking system. 
    • Traffic control and crowd control for mass casualty influx. 
    • Decontamination procedures including set up of decontamination zones. 
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested, especially pertaining to the ED.
Qualifications

What’s Required  

  • High school diploma or GED is required OR 20 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Valid driver's license is required. 
  • Knowledge and/or experience in law enforcement, fire, safety or security is preferred.
