Best thing
Once you make career, the schedule is actually set under color codes so you can plan ahead for things. The job itself is nice. Being on your own to deliver and getting to see the customers. Retirement is great as they match 5% if you contribute that minimum 5%. Love the Thrift Savings Plan. Big reason I’m still here.
Worst thing
The pay is poor, the management is hostile and tries to fire you if you get sick or injured. You get more work if you work hard. Retaliation is really bad here because management thinks they can get away with everything. The health benefits are expensive just to live and take care of yourself. The hours are inconsistent. Sometimes you’ll be begging for them and other times you’ll be ran ragged. The job does a number on your body. Most retire with lots of physical issues. You’re exposed to truck fumes a lot because of the old vehicles. You’re out in the elements (rain, snow, sleet, shine) so that can really get your allergies and illnesses going. Sun exposure daily so you raise your chances of skin cancer if you don’t apply sunscreen. It’s a manageable job like any other so you get used to the things you may not favor. Not one of the worst jobs but if you’re young and picky, definitely just go look for another place of employment.

Best thing
It is nice that as full time we have access to health insurance, as well received an allotment of vacation time and sick leave. Amount that is determined by length of time having worked there. Base start being like 2 weeks.
Worst thing
Management staff who has no clue what they are doing. Occasionally criticizing ways we do particular tasks that have been done those particular ways as long as I remember. As a clerk that works on a dock primarily in a sorting and distribution and management not having a clue what all we do that is hard strenuous work. And severely understaffed yet they continuously pull people off my shift to cover elsewhere that seems they need it more further making us short staffed more. And never provides us with help from elsewhere when we need it. Often leading to an unnecessary stressful environment and an unsatisfactory working environment. And it is easy to call in when sick via an online option. Yet has a disclaimer that states you may be required to provide documentation for your unscheduled absence. If you are severely sick but require no doctor of hospital visit you occasionally wonder if you may experience some slight harassment. Calling in more than 2 consecutive days increases the possibility of harassment and expectations of being asked for some documentation explaining why or a doctors note. And turning in leave slips to use vacation can be like pulling teeth to get a copy back for your records to show it was approved. Or they have 3 days to return the slip, marked denied if someone already requested the shifts slot for days seeking off, and if approved that it's marked on slip to show the slots those days were open.

Best thing
Working in a nationwide business, we have the opportunity to transfer our job if we move. We have the opportunity to get OT if we want it.
Worst thing
The people that work there can be extremely disrespectful and there's no recourse to deal with it. The environment is slightly toxic but the pay is good enough to make putting up with it worth it.

Best thing
I love going everywhere and being on my own time. I love the people I meet and privilege I have of serving my community. I drive a mercedes and listen to music all day.
Worst thing
Management couldn’t care less about me, it’s all about what I’m doing. One mess up and it’s over. They preach safety all day but refuse to meet the requirements our workers need to be safe. All they care about is meeting numbers, if anybody gets hurt or sick it’s on us and not them.

Best thing
I get to work alone, I get a lot of sick and vacation days, have benefits (even though it's expensive)
Worst thing
Working in all elements (rain, snow, tornadoes, hurricanes, extreme heat and cold), don't get paid enough money ( they gutted pur pay, benefits, and pensions), the micromanagement by people who don't know anything about my job.

Best thing
Most of the day you are by yourself.
Worst thing
Working outside most of the day in the north east United States in all weather conditions. Dog attacks, ignorant people on the regular basis. Many miles every day while carrying 10 through 40 pounds at a time. Bad footwear, that you’re obligated to have on.

Lol
Worst thing
Management especially because most have NEVER done our jobs yet want to tell us what to do to improve or rather speed up our delivery
Most Management in the USPS are people who have no education in management and at one time did the blue collar work but either couldn't handle it or didn't like it.
People that come here WITH a Managerial Degree reign/quit because of the nonsense that occurs here.
Perfect example is the Board of governors that make up all the rules and regulations and prices of the USPS
None of them have ever worked for the USPS and that includes the Postmaster GeneralUnited States Postal Service Package Delivery Driver, December 2024
