What employees are saying about Thermo Fisher Scientific

  • Best thing

Work mostly independently. Get to listen to music.

    Worst thing

Company favoritism, no room to grow or move up. Company preaches ethical work environment but is far from it. No life work balance. It changes at a whim. Company offers no incentive.

  • Best thing

Decent benefits. I have a good manager. I like and get along with my peers.

    Worst thing

Below market pay, difficult clients, chaotic program, I am unsure if this program even makes financial sense.

  • Best thing

I am a remote employee and enjoy not having to travel into the company.

    Worst thing

The worst things about my job is the fact that our PTO is 1 bucket. There is no pto specific for sick time which I feel is not fair. Being sick is not something that is planned and unfortunately of you have a planned vacation already booked and you get sick before your PTO, you feel guilty for taking all that time. The other thing is, it's expected for hourly employees to have a back up person handling your work if your sick.

The other thing I dislike is, if your working in a specific position and don't want to move up to the next level because you will loose certain visibilities in that position, they frown upon that and don't give any type of significant merit increase to a person busting their hump in that same job.

They also won't compensate you if your trained and have the specific approval rights for a certain role, but are only asked to do this job if they are short staffed and need help.

Some groups micromanage staff in their roles by disallowing employees to have certain work applications on their cell phones. Its said, that its only for managers and that Management tells you this is done to assist in Work, Life, Balance.

However, I believe that if we are hired and are adults working here, we should be the ones to make this decision as to how we manager our own work life balance.
