It is a union job. Even though the union can sometimes be fairly weak and may seem like they are non existent...having that still gives you strength to fight for what's right in store. Healthcare is quite good, and very affordable. I pay $8 a week for healthcare. You can add your entire family for an extra $8. It can be a very laid back atmosphere if you know how to take advantage of the poorly run corporate system put in place. Corporate worries so much about money and metrics, they leave themselves open to easily being taken advantage of by savvy employees. Being such a large corporation means labor laws are sure to be broken, and a smart employee can gain tons of extra income just by turning the company in when they break the law. Having a union protects you from retaliation when you do turn them in. The inevitable retaliation opens you up for more payments. The companies own hubris and stupidity is what makes it easy to earn extra income.
Worst thing
This is a multi billion dollar corporation that will publicly brag about record profits and then tell employees they have to cut hours and keep wages low. The entire company is severely understaffed, and the employees consistently ask for more help but the company just gives impossible to hit metrics as a goal to getting more help. It's insulting.
If you are not aware of your labor rights, or if you are afraid to stand up for them then you will be taken advantage of. Many workers feel pressured to work off the clock or to skip legally required breaks and lunches, and the company is aware. Many women deal with harassment. Hours and schedules are inconsistent at best. If you have a second job, or school, you will be expected to put Ralphs first.Produce clerk at Ralphs, May 2025
