Maintenance at National Beef Packing, April 2025

Best thing
There's always a constant flow of people so it's a process of meeting different individuals and getting to know the capability and personality of coworkers. You also can start off right away with a large scale point system, start earning personal time in less than a year and a vacation at the conclusion of one year.
Worst thing
The attendance policy is almost like a no fault policy, unless you request paid time, personal time, or fmla, and call ins are reported as pointed occurrence without pay. There are durations of time where there isn't enough work with no likelihood of short term overtime, only 16 hour shifts. Second shift doesn't leave on time as it is the last operating production shift before sanitation shift starts. There is an attendance bonus weekly that you lose if you call in sick for the whole week. There is disconnection between HR and the union employees and the contract is half in the gray so past practice is used a lot.
