  my coworkers are incredible people and i generally have fun at work. it’s taught me a lot of soft skills and helped me gain confidence in myself.

  Worst thing

  pay is not nearly enough for the amount of effort expected. working conditions are bad. i have to take orders outside in the sun until it’s 112 degrees or hotter with no sun shades, misters, or fans.

  Free drinks, pretty flexible scheduling, you get four free shirts throughout a year, meet a lot of really cool people, always music playing, tips vary from shop to shop but everyone typically walks away with a couple bucks, usually stand will go out and do activities together, you get opportunities for a lot of volunteer work and donating to the community.

  Worst thing

  Manipulative upper management, it’s hard to call out sick you have to basically prove it, the training is sparse and the rest of the crew has to pull together everyone’s slack as they’re coming in which leads to resentment within coworkers, you have to pay for food still, t-shirts used to be given out once a month but they stopped because they couldn’t afford to keep up with that promised perk and now make employees purchase shirts online if you need a new one and otherwise you receive a shirt quarterly, you don’t get breaks for lunch or anything else, you’re expected to answer your phone outside of work or come into work early if the person before you misses their shift you will probably be called and woken up to come in if it’s an early shift, getting someone to cover your shift has to be approved by everyone involved and the reason why you need a shift covered has to be approved by management, everyone walks on eggshells when management is around, there’s this idea that Dutch bros brositas should remember the drink orders of people who come through often and customers are often extremely rude if you don’t know what they get automatically when they come through, it’s a physical job for sure, you’re lifting weight like boxes and machines- anything that needs to be restocked or fixed or cleaned that might be heavy but that’s sort of like any other food service job I just think most people wouldn’t expect it for the toll it can take on your body walking around outside or standing for 6+ hours and then having to restock the shop at the end of your shift, during donation days (“giveback days”) brositas are pretty much expected to donate their tips, management is supposed to ask first but usually they don’t and anyone who doesn’t donate is kinda frowned upon so people feel as if they can’t ask to take their tips, it’s described as letting go of the few “extra bucks” for a bigger cause while upper management doesn’t do a thing to donate themselves and doesn’t seem to realize most broistas are living off of the help those tips provide.
