What do plumbers & gas engineers do?
Plumbers have the job of installing, repairing and looking after heating, water and drainage systems.
You’ll be out-and-about when working, either in businesses or people’s homes.
This type of job may involve:
- Fitting new plumbing systems, like central heating systems and bathrooms
- Fixing any plumbing problems
- Working out the costs and estimates for jobs
- Using specialist equipment
- Responding to emergencies, such as leaks or broken boilers
You may have to work on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
If you want to apply for a plumbers job, you might need the following:
- Some GCSEs, a Level 2 or 3 Diploma, or a relevant apprenticeship
- Previous experience in plumbing or heating engineering
- A Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) card
- Be on the Gas Safe Register
- The right to work in the UK
