    Why this matters

At a good job, you should expect to work about the same number of hours that your contract guarantees you, most of the time.

It’s useful to pick up or drop a few shifts here and there, but if you often work a lot more hours every week than you’re contracted for, a good job should guarantee them.

What Pizza Express employees say about their job

  • Best thing

    Good people

    Worst thing

Shifts are spread out to maximise staff and get my requested hours instead of having a few long shifts

    5.1

Waiter at Pizza Express, October 2025

  • Best thing

The team I work with, the discounts and getting to leave after a shift

    Worst thing

The fact that head office are pushing you to be perfect at everything when that is impossible. They haven’t worked in a restaurant for a while so they don’t remember what the day to day life is like. The constant little changes to the menu that you don’t always find out about until they are delivered to your restaurant. The fact that the managers don’t always treat you with respect and just expect you to do the work of two people cause they have to cut the labour so your left running round like a headless chicken and then getting complaints from customers because the service isn’t up to standard. They don’t always give you the recognition when you go above and beyond your role. They pay their employees such as chefs and shift managers just above living wage where other companies pay better.
