  • Best thing

    The discount(s) are nice

    Worst thing

We're understaffed and don't have enough people to work on everything that needs to be done e.g. tills, replenishment, floor staff, cleaning we don't have enough people.

Upper management doesn't care/acknowledge the physical work we have to do daily and the added work when we have to do stock changeovers (manager specials, or seasonal stock.)
They make changes without thinking about the impact on us. The lack of consistency is disrespectful to us.
The pay doesn't feel equal to the work they've got us doing.

    B&M Employee, August 2024

  • Best thing

Dealing with the customers that’s the best part of my job.

    Worst thing

The management needs training and they’d like to exploit staff and change the rotor without letting you know, tell you off for it. They use stto build the store and then get rid of them. they always short off staff and expect you to do five peoples jobs.

    1.6

    B&M Employee, August 2024

  • Best thing

Interacting with new and interesting people

    Worst thing

Lack of hours, Constant hour cut back whilst systematically opening more stores, blame the staff for work not done because of lack of staffing hours, constant recruitment bans, Little to no training offered to new staff so jobs get done twice, deliveries of stock much larger than manifest says should be coming in, no Aircon unless already installed before company moved in, heating systems and lifts arnt given funding when they break down. Attempts made to bypass union agreement.

Having to stand behind the till and not being able to sit unless you have a doctor's note stating otherwise

    Quite therapeutic and easy

    Worst thing

    Staff and rude customers

    3.0

    B&M Customer assistant, June 2024

  • Best thing

The people whom you become friends with.

    Worst thing

Lack of moral stability with the business.Back fighting and a toxic environment.Additional pressure to complete with payroll removed so have to still fulfil what is expected.Little regard to any who is a ghost employee, with no assistance to be verified. Opening hours that do not match the area, unlike Liverpool.Them and us from head office also seasonally the ho staff are catered for far better than the actual people front facing the daily crap we face with poor security measures to make us safe.A disparity of the stock loss by sending "free" stock to stores which ultimately covers up store losses through theft . No transparency with the business.Poor service due to lack of staffing in-store .The discount needs be 20-30 % as the prices have increased so dramatically.
The culture has to change from the top.Except what is going on and put it right . People make the business.

    2.3

    B&M Deputy manager, June 2024

  • Best thing

    Friendly collegues and staff.
Good length in breaks and paid breaks.
Get used to having friendly regular customers. Good staff car parking.

    Worst thing

There isn't much trust, we cant do basic things like reprint recipts without manager authorisation and we have to call managers often to approve returns etc.

It can feel like a lot of work for very little pay. The shifts vary which makes getting a regular schedule hard. Often put in for overtime (contracted 20 hrs, work 25 hours). Our shop closes at 10pm so sometimes you can be working late. We only get our rotor two weeks in advance which makes booking things in advance a challenge.

Dont feel particularly safe at this job as some customers can be quite intimidating.

Personally I wouldnt reccomend working there to a friend.

  • Best thing

    Keeps you in shape

    Worst thing

Animals in the workplace including mice and birds, I came across an in counter where a palled full of items was not stored properly and fell from over 20 feet and almost crushed me but luckily I was stood a couple of feet back, there is bird droppings on some of the stuff you have to pick up and also the birds eat the seeds in the were houses that were meant to send out.
