What Stonegate Pubs employees say about their job

  • Best thing

Having a 0 hour contract so I can get time off whenever I need it

    Worst thing

Having a 0 hour contract so I could be working 50 hours a week and then go a couple months only working 1 maybe 2 shifts a week.
Always being left alone and having to do the job of 3 people all at the same time.

    1.5

    Stonegate Pubs Employee, September 2024

  • Best thing

Social, hours fit around being a student, employee discount at all stonegate venues and jump the queues into clubs.

    Worst thing

Can get extremely busy, work entire shifts (8hrs+) with no break as there’s no time to stop, anti-social hours if full time and have other commitments ie family (work into the early hours of the morning), high stress, high pace.

  • Best thing

    Good exercise, mostly great colleagues

    Worst thing

Low pay, head manager barely appears and is often disrespecful, majority of managers spend more time in office than on the floor, lack of funding for travel home, 10 hour shifts with 20 minute unpaid break

    4.7

Stonegate Pubs Bar staff, May 2023

  • Best thing

I love being a Deputy manager in a night club. I love the people and the atmosphere.

    Worst thing

I don’t feel listened to at all times and my opinion doesn’t seem to valued.

    3.7

Stonegate Pubs Deputy manager, April 2023

  • Best thing

I'm lucky with the manager at my site. She is fantastic and really flexible. This isn't always the case in pubs (especially Stonegate). The manager really pushes you to improve with different courses and will always give you chances to improve. You make so many friends around this job, and when you're struggling, people help you (on-site).

    Worst thing

Mainly head office. They don't seem to be aware of the pressure in the house which causes most of the stress in the workplace. The manager is always placed under pressure for staffing, saying we have too much, but we only have two people in the bar and one in the kitchen on busy nights. The manager is forced to work around 60/70 hours a week to upkeep rota expectations. Unpaid breaks and customers can be rude. If staff are a no-show, cover can be difficult and working made harder. Lack of communication between head office and the booking service used will overbook the pub for the commission not thinking of the people "at the bottom".

    6.4

Stonegate Pubs Team member, December 2022

  • Best thing

Can be great at building your career if you are interested in staying in the industry. Can meet alot of people along the way who become more than work mates and also bring many people out of their shell

    Worst thing

Paid minimum wage with constant labour cost cuts leading to more stressful shifts. Action taken by head office with little consideration of the practicality of how it will work. Can be very common for people to feel undervalued.

    3.5

Stonegate Pubs Team leader, September 2022

  • Best thing

Cocktails, flexible hours, the rest of the team

    Worst thing

Constantly understaffed, continually under pressure from GM and AM to over perform. GM unfocused and management team deflated, unmotivated and tired. Spreads lack of moral to the rest of the team. Given to many responsibilities which feel is above what I'm paid. Dwindling amounts of staff but unwilling to change opening or kitchen hours to help remove some pressure.

    5.0

Stonegate Pubs Duty manager, September 2022

  • Best thing

The other employees make the work environment much better

    Worst thing

The long days and working around 60 hours a week during peak season and generally only have one day off a week because of how busy it gets.
It is stressful most of the time.

    4.7

Stonegate Pubs Team leader, June 2022

  • Best thing

Interacting with customers and having great food

    Worst thing

Getting told constantly do work whilst the other staff can sit back and do nothing. My boss likes to demand and drink

    4.2

Stonegate Pubs Front of house, May 2022

    Great people to work with

    Worst thing

Head office don't seem to understand that we need more hours and staff available to us and often cut them and say we will manage
