Best thing
It's beneficial when you are a student because you can work fixed shifts.
Worst thing
Very poorly organised, the tasks management's will give you change constantly. Therefore you can't finish what you doing properly. It's difficult to get consistent overtime.
Waitrose & Partners Retail assistant, November 2023
-
Best thing
I get to work on point of sale and the store instagram
Worst thing
No time to do everything we’re meant to do and they keep giving more tasks to fit into your time. For the things I do, there’s also very few people who can cover me so managers are more stubborn/ make me feel guilty about my time off.
Customers are rude and not understanding. Cutting hours and putting pressure on the lowest paid people to get everything done. In equal contracts so some people get paid more than others.Waitrose & Partners Supermarket assistant, November 2023

Best thing
Decent night premium

Pretty good discounts on lunchWorst thing
Head office is a bit disconnected with what’s going on in the store but that’s pretty typical of any company
Waitrose & Partners Employee, August 2023

Best thing
The discount. Although this is not given to students which is utterly outrageous. It's not like when one goes away they forget the simplistic tasks involved with being a supermarket assistant. As a returning partner I carry out work just as well as people who are there all the time.
Worst thing
My role is unclear. No clear training structure or way of delivering training is provided. Workers are not recognised for their hard work but called up on faults. The list continues.

Worst thing
Management - I wasn’t told when i was even meant to start working when i first got the job and had to call head offices.
