Best thing
the team i work with are amazing, most of them go above and beyond for the service users and colleagues. i feel like i can speak to my manager or any office staff about anything whenever i need to. in my experience any issues ive had between coworkers or with service users have been dealt with properly and almost immediately.
i really get on with the people we care for as well, and it’s very rewarding to see them improve because of your support.
Worst thing
unpaid breaks, sometimes don’t get a break for a whole shift (either 8 or 16h). also if you’re a driver you end up doing more work than the person you’re working with i.e. time spent picking them up and dropping them home - which is unpaid and often completely out of the way of your run, having singles chucked on you because you can drive - sometimes, you as the driver get a 6:45am start but the person you’re working with could get an 8am start which feels unfair when it happens regularly.
having to wait around to go into calls - there are sometimes upwards of an hour gaps between calls and we are given 15 minute leeway. this time is not paid as we are only paid travel time (when you’re actually driving) and the time allotted for the calls, which can be frustrating as you feel like you’re still at work - you just aren’t being paid for it.
some service users can be aggressive but that kind of comes with the job. it does scare people off, though.
