The people I work with 100% make my job, I would’ve left ages ago if it wasn’t for them. There are a variety of shifts available and the overtime is 3 weeks in advance which really helps compared to having to wait the days before the new week starts to see what’s available, so you can always plan around things instead of it being last minute. This is probably one of the best things Primark does as an employer, especially compared to other companies. The management teams are generally really organised too so most of the time you know exactly what you’re doing or what needs doing.

    Worst thing

The shift patterns are generally in 4hr shifts, which can be annoying when you’d rather work a full day. Some employees have full day shifts but from what I know there aren’t many. The job can be extremely repetitive too, cause you work the same contracted shift and do the same things everyday. Being acknowledged for any hard work or extra work you’ve done is extremely rare and one of the biggest things the management teams need to work on. Cause going out of your way to help others but then being overlooked and ignored sucks and is a real kick in the teeth. I’ve gradually learnt to just do my bit and leave it at that - although then they complain at how untidy things are etc. 10% discount only 4 times a year is crap too, it should be all year.

  • Best thing

You get a lot of support from the management from supervisors upwards. There is a focus group once a month the people used are from each department and are kept for about 5 meetings then they are changed so there is a complete overview of the store. You are rewarded with employee of the month and of the quarter. If you are having any issues the managers listen.and take things seriously and if you feel like you would be better used elsewhere they take that in to account as well.

    Worst thing

The discount is only once a quarter and there is a cap on overtime.

  • Best thing

Routine, shifts are the same every week. Working with the same team, unless you’re working overtime.
Clean canteen space, generally secure premises.

    Worst thing

Generally low pay, still have to apply for benefits to top up income. Unfortunately end up being WORSE OFF doing occasional overtime.
Would like more if the pay was enough to live on with out needing to be still on benefits.

Difficult to social distance from other colleagues and customers
