How we know this

Based on data from 33 people who took the Breakroom Quiz between March 2023 and March 2024.

88% of people say they wouldn’t get paid if they were sick but scheduled to work.

Why this matters

Everyone gets sick sometimes. You should be able to take time off without worrying.

At a good job you should still get paid if you’re scheduled to work but can’t due to sickness. Your contract should say how many sick days you can take each year.

This is more than the legal minimum, which says you should only get paid if you are unwell for 4 full days. See Citizens Advice for more details.

What people are saying about sick pay at Pets Corner

  • Best thing

If you like animals, you’re likely to see dogs every single day. Training side of things is also very good.

    Worst thing

If the company is struggling to make money, staff hours are cut, commission is cut, but the company will quite happily continue to open new stores. No decent rest area, no sick pay, pushed to hard sell food brands to customers so that they “have to come back”. If they come in for a dog toy, you have to get them on the subject of food. If they come in for a collar, you have to get them on the subject of food… etc. It’s not a case of having a pleasant conversation with your customer anymore, instead you’re mind is constantly thinking “how can I steer this to food…” and then if you don’t manage to sell food to them, you feel like a failure. There’s no longer a sense of pride in the job anymore, just pressure.
