Best thing
Just doing nothing when it’s dead but you have to be on with some one else
Worst thing
On less busy days managers and supervisors just walk off. Have to deal with ignorant people

The tips tbh. My colleagues are also really nice and we have quite a supportive team environment.
Worst thing
We are definitely expected to do too much on the rate of pay we're given.
Restaurant environment can be particularly stressful.
It's difficult to plan ahead for things with the last minute rota.Mitchells & Butlers FOH team member, February 2024

Best thing
The team I work with 90% of them are great. We're all in the same boat but we keep each other going with team morale.
Worst thing
Head office and the senior management team haven't got a clue what's going on with the frontline! Sending our vouchers and offers they can't keep on top of. Sending out reports, targets and sales plans that are totally unobtainable but expect us to hit anyway, then we get told off when we don't hit them. They are uncontactable 99% of the time and when you do want to contact, you get their personal assistant who "promises they will call you back". The lack of support for management teams on the frontline is absolutely disgusting. They expect you to create a fantastic busy target hitting pub, but give you next to no labour, throw offers at you that your team can't handle, and to top it all of, guess what... You haven't completed your wellness course on the training platform! They need to make sure you understand mental health. It's a joke!!!!

The team I work with daily are brilliant - fun, helpful and a good bunch of people. Some of the managers are great too and always help and get stuck in. Discount is great especially as a student!
Worst thing
The management are difficult about silly things. For example I’m a full time student doing 5days a week/35 hours and then then expect me to work every Saturday and Sunday on top of that meaning I wouldn’t get a day off for weeks. I’ve made it clean my studies come first but that means nothing to them. I have never worked with anyone as lazy, poorly mannered or unhelpful as one of my managers is but the manager above her is worse. In a review session about my work ethic I was never told a single positive, only negatives and after discussing this with my team they were disappointed and ashamed as they all feel I’m a brilliant team member who takes on the tasks others don’t want and cracks on with work. In general- management hugely lets the side down, we don’t get paid enough to get treated so badly by them and frankly the turn over of staff js so high mainly due to management not being flexible when there is definitely the ability to be. I’ve been there 6 months and I’ve seen multiple staff come and go in that short space of time.

Best thing
A lot of customers are friendly and staff is too if you take away some overly negative coworkers
Worst thing
Being constantly promised I'd get trained and promoted then it not being a priority at all, knowing some staff are paid 2.50 more per hour for the same role

Best thing
The customers and the team around you, generally a great bunch and customers are on the whole very understanding.
Worst thing
Head office havent a clue what is actually going on in the business, it is far too top heavy with more consultants/advisors than one can shake a stick at. There is a total lack of understanding of the cost of living and the relationship with rates of pay, with the hours worked by their teams and the demands that these place on the teams. In addition the senior management have no understanding of the impact of their decision, how their unrealistic labour targets are impacting the delivery of the brand and fail to be operations led to coach staff/management on how to achieve the targets more effectively. The link between sales growth and labour costs/control is totally lost on the current Operations Director in the brand that I work in. The rates of pay are frankly insulting and demeaning and the Management by laptop culture of the senior team will prevent the brand achieving its end goals. The store based teams need more practical training on how to actually perform certain tasks, for example interviewing.

Management, bitchy team, condescending team members, cliquey, overworked and underpaid, expected far too much from one person. Management allow you to be verbally abused by customers and do nothing about it even if you are crying, anxious etc. they simply do not care about anything but numbers. If you make a mistake you are shamed in front of the restaurant. Not welcome in on your days off. Bad rota

lots of things feel unfair even though they are probably legal. Unpaid breaks 20 min breaks on very long shifts, meals costing £4, getting clocked out earlier than you leave, getting clocked in later if you are a few minutes late. Always working crazy busy weekends
