Good place to start your career. Other than that, you don’t really want to be there long term.
Where to start? Head Office don’t care about staff, only care about their company reputation, so will usually take customers side in arguments.
They are cheap, and will underpay all staff. For a dying industry where no one wants to work anymore, they are putting nails in coffins.
Management are back handed.
Take time off? Your managers won’t like that…. Be prepared to be slammed for it.
No paid overtime.
60% of customers don’t give a damn about you, and just feel they are more entitled than you are in the company.
Your well-being and life outside of work? Yeah, they don’t care about that.
They advised a whole brand, based in a crime high, surbaban are, to take an evening jog when feeling sad.All in the all. If you’re in a restaurant or a pub, or bar, no one cares.
If you work in head office. Even if you aren’t good at it… everyone bends over for you.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, March 2022
The people I work with are so lovely & the managers are so understanding!
Customers can be unreasonable sometimes, and it can often be difficult working under pressure if it’s a busy night.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, February 2022
Staff are friendly and supportive
Pay, customers and hours
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, February 2022
The people i work with are great, i enjoy 4/6 days a week.
The building we work in is falling apart but we dont have the funding to repair it. the burns kits only have bandages in them which has caused many unnecessary trips to hospital.
the younger staff are used for they’re cheap wages and are exhausted and overworked. we are also severely understaffed but are in the process of hiring more staff. the restaurant itself would do great if it wasn't for the lack of fucks given towards the leaking roofs, the antisocial behaviour in the area and the staffing situation. just needs some tlc.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, February 2022
I am lucky enough to work with amazing people who are really understanding
Part time workers are often taken advantage of. I am contracted at 16 hours minimum but tend to do at least 23 hours a week. Occasionally reaching over 30 hours as of recent.

The customers can sometimes be quite entitled
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, December 2021
The people I work with are generally great and some regulars are also really nice.
Head office don’t appreciate you at all nor do they understand and encourage management to reduce hours as much as possible to cut labour costs and won’t repair things for ages.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, December 2021
Manager can be understanding and helpful when he is in a good mood.
No understanding of time it takes to meet their expectations of the service they require you to fulfil and pay is very poor for the amount of work you do and stress that the job entails.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, December 2021

Mitchells & Butlers Employee, August 2021
The team I work with are more like extended family, we can laugh and cry together. The job is fun most of the time.
It is stressful, physically demanding, and have ended up in tears a few times due to some guests. Not great if you have physical problems, the plates and drinks are heavy to carry and can cause long term damage to hands and wrists.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, August 2021

Mitchells & Butlers Employee, July 2021
Great fun and tight team. We are helping each other not only at work but also in real life.
Long working hours sometimes. Very hard to balance family and social life while working. Pay not too great for the amount of work required.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, July 2021
The team I work with are great always look out for each other and help each other out.
The hours are ridiculous, I’m contracted for 48 hours which is a lot of hours to start with, the pay isn’t great. I have to work 12 hour shifts without a break, sometimes working 7-8 days in a row without a day off and I feel like higher management don’t care that we work ourselves to the bone they just add more and more on more on. Sometimes they give guests 50% off mon-wed and we still only get 33%. Most of the time just feel like a number and not a valued employee.
Mitchells & Butlers Employee, July 2021
Made great friends working in O’Neill’s (customers and staff)
Unorganised, leave you in the dark with everything, including giving us our rota the day before the week begins. Very toxic environment, management are bully’s and make you feel awful for doing anything that even slightly inconveniences them and don’t care about your mental or physical health
