Do McDonald’s pay sick pay?

No. Most people don’t get proper sick pay at McDonald’s.

Last updated 28 March 2024

How we know this

Based on data from 386 people who took the Breakroom Quiz between December 2023 and March 2024.

88% of people say they wouldn’t get paid if they were sick but scheduled to work.

Why this matters

Everyone gets sick sometimes. You should be able to take time off without worrying.

At a good job you should still get paid if you’re scheduled to work but can’t due to sickness. Your contract should say how many sick days you can take each year.

This is more than the legal minimum, which says you should only get paid if you are unwell for 4 full days. See Citizens Advice for more details.

What people are saying about sick pay at McDonald’s

  • Best thing

    Free food on shift

    Worst thing

Entitled managers who think they are better than you simple because they wear a different uniform or carry around a clipboard. My entire experience has been so stressful I’m exhausted and experiencing hair loss along with other medical issues as a direct result of working here , management simply do not care about you in the slightest unless you are one of their friends which can get away with anything. This isn’t all management but a vast majority of management has so little care , they have forced some of my co workers to stay for several hours into their shift even though they are sick

  • Best thing

employee perks such as free meal on your break, employee discounts on food and free promo items once a month, (e.g: free big tasty burger.)

    Worst thing

shift patterns are irrelgular, often scheduled out of availability, schedule is changed last minute, holidays and time off are not approved or checked, calling in sick is difficult and often results in the following week's shifts being taken away or depleted hours, managers favour certain employees giving them less tasks and more hours etc.
