JD Wetherspoon job reviews

Showing 290 reviews

  • Best thing

the fact it pays living wage, and the colleagues. the only reason i could handle the job as it was for so long was because of how nice my team was

    Worst thing

The stress - in spoons you're either stressed or you're bored, feels like there's no inbetween. Staffing issues - at the time of writing it seems the whole UK hospitality sector is struggling for staff, but every shift we have we're either short by rota or someone called in sick and we dont get a replacement

    8.0

    JD Wetherspoon Employee, September 2022

  • Best thing

The people you go into battle with. The discount on days off

    Worst thing

Rude customers, managers getting paid alot more for doing not much more. Useless people not getting sacked and then stuck there. Rota gets changed without real notice or asking if you have plans already. You life revolves around the business not the other way round

    1.3

    JD Wetherspoon Employee, August 2022

  • Best thing

Very flexible hours, free food on shift, easy to relocate if necessary, paid a little extra if working past 12am

    Worst thing

Not the best pay, can sometimes be late, only laid £1/hr extra after 12am so nothing massive, can get quite stressful if busy

    8.0

    JD Wetherspoon Employee, August 2022

  • Best thing

Discount at any wetherspoons pub and hotel, make work friends

    Worst thing

Understaffed, rude customers, managers that hide in the office, no air conditioning in the summer, toilets always flooding, not enough basic training for new staff, lack of communication between staff members, lazy staff get away with the doing the bare minimum making other people pick up the slack, people who shouldn't be in positions of power.

    3.7

    JD Wetherspoon Employee, August 2022

  • Best thing

Many perks and benefits like free meals and discounts,Good training in all job roles and many opportunities for promotions,Good breaks.

    Worst thing

Very understaffed,Always trying to save hours on the busiest of days making it stressful for those still on shift. Occasionally lack of communication from higher ups, late night finishing times.

  • Best thing

    Free food
    Discount

    Worst thing

Pub Management making their own rules that do not reflect the companies vision for their business.

Pub Manager who thinks they own the entire company, and their word is therefore gospel.

Cliques - (Some) Members of Management only care about themselves and do anything that can to avoid actually helping the staff.

(Some) Members of management expecting staff to do more work when they have already clocked out on their scheduled rota, even though they will not be paid for this.

Staff are forced to use social media, so that management can harass staff on their days off, and make them feel terrible if they don’t reply to messages or refuse to work their days off because management don’t seem to understand staff have real lives outside of a low skilled McJob (TM)

Finally, the complete loss of self respect working for such a cringey pub.

  • Best thing

Mostly decent staff, decent pay as a student, free meal and drink for break.

    Worst thing

Can be stressful when very busy. Sometimes bad management and lack of training and help for new staff which can create a feeling of confusion and alienation for staff, which also usually leads to upset/angry customers due to mistakes made that could've been avoided with proper training. Occasional dodgy occurrences with rotas e.g. denying holidays when booked 6 weeks in advance, putting staff holidays on without their knowledge or consent.
