What are retail and sales assistants saying about pay at House of Fraser?

  • Best thing

Becoming friends with some of the staff

    Worst thing

Grumpy customers, a lot of hours for not much pay, entitled staff and customers, can get extremely boring

  • Best thing

Great people! Not hard labour and because of 0hours I can choose not to do a shift

    Worst thing

Never given enough hours! Management can be seriously rude about your availability. Have to buy uniform (from the stores choice of brands) and pay 60% of the price.

House of Fraser Customer assistant, July 2022

  • Best thing

    - Nice managers and co-workers, everyone's very friendly with there being a good work culture in the store
    - Understanding managers, the managers are all well trained. The managers are generally nice, most of them are young so they're fairly laid back, while still making sure everything gets done.
    - Benefits, I've used my 20% off a lot.

    Worst thing

    - Pay, while the commission has boosted my pay alot, its still not great. I know I could earn more working at Amazon or Sainsbury's.
    - Understaffed, cost cutting by the head office has meant that theres 20% less staff than there should be, this can make some shifts hectic, and a little stressful at times. The managers are just as annoyed as us and don't blame us for any undone work, but it is still a bit stressful.

  • Best thing

Flexibility, casual uniform, sociable and discount.

    Worst thing

Lack of hours, pay, boring, can’t sit down at all, managers can be quick to judge, lonely, doing the work of 2 or 3 people, ignorant staff and customers.
