Best thing
Freedom of hours and basically do what you want
Worst thing
Management don’t care about the people, they care about results. There’s no training and you’re thrown right in the deep end. Barely any discounted items, which you can’t have if you have a restrictive diet. Constantly understaffed as such high turn over rate
Catering assistant at Freedom Leisure, December 2023

Best thing
Easy to get work at any Freedom site, if you already are on the books. Good teamwork building skills.
Worst thing
The pay, and general manager are terrible, the company can be quite bureaucratic at times.
Lifeguard at Freedom Leisure, November 2023
-
Best thing
It’s flexible due to not being contracted. I enjoy my job because I do a range of things within it so I don’t get bored.
Worst thing
Other people who don’t work as hard as me in the exact same job get paid more just because they are older (con of minimum wage). The job is mentally draining and physically exhausting which doesn’t make it ideal to work many days in a row.
Casual worker at Freedom Leisure, September 2023
-
Best thing
It’s quite a simple job that comes with respect and importance. That pay is very good for a student like myself. The team there are super friendly and mostly are great to work with.
Worst thing
As a group we are all there for the same goals - to keep people safe and keep the chainginrooms and centre clean. This is very hard to do when others don’t pull their weight, and as a result it’s not a job for a ‘push over’ as people will take advantage of that.
Lifeguard at Freedom Leisure, April 2023
-
Best thing
Like 2 people I actually like there
Worst thing
Bitchiness and no one communicates with each other, everyone is quick to turn on each other.

Worst thing

Lifeguard at Freedom Leisure, January 2022
-
Best thing
•The people who I work with
•The reward I get from working hard. As an introvert, a little thank you or encouragement goes a long way!Worst thing
•They don’t really understand how mental health works. They seem to disregard bad days, most of the time their responses are leave it at home. Support in centre is poor, leading to staff being stressed over worked and unhappy.
•constantly short staffed and people employing lifeguards who aren’t even able to fulfill their job due to age restrictions. Which means no flexibility and more short staffing.Employee at Freedom Leisure, December 2021

Best thing
Being a lifeguard is challenging but also rewarding and I take pride in calling myself a lifeguard!
Worst thing
Being told that everything that we had in place before will be ripped apart for new system that is less fair than before!
Lifeguard at Freedom Leisure, September 2021
-
Best thing
The other people who work here are amazing
Worst thing
Constant stress of not enough staff to get job done, constantly being pressured to work over time on your rest days. Having to work shifts seven days a week. Treated with no respect by management. Lack of support from management. Abuse from customers who refuse to wear masks with no support from management. Low pay. No sick pay. Having to pay for access to own facilities despite local council workers and others getting it for free. Not enough staff parking.
