The crew and managers are fun to work with and the environment is great but the actual job can be a little hard at times especially Friday and Saturday nights.

Best thing
Everyone is so lovely, it’s decent pay, it’s easy to organise my shifts, the work isn’t hard and they accommodate my uni timetable

Best thing
Seeing people that I work with when I come in, they help me get through the day.
Worst thing
It requires equal efforts from every worker and if someone isn’t up to par it puts me in a bad mood as things aren't going as smooth as they should be

Best thing
Pay and my staff
Worst thing
No support from head office or training managers, lack of support from area managers only interested in own reputation, turn blind eye to overworked hours and always negative feedback
Five Guys Assistant manager, December 2022
-
Best thing
The other crew members are great where I work, but obviously that’s just for my store.
Worst thing
The managers, there is always something happening between the managers and they can never take criticism for any mistakes and it always someone else’s fault. Childish and lack empathy. I’ve worked there for a long enough time to know.

Best thing
Great pay compared to industry standard, also includes regular (up to 2x a week) opportunities to receive cash bonuses as incentive to work hard, team is fun and there’s a wide range of responsibilities and tasks to do at an point in the day so you’re never bored and no day is the same.
Worst thing
Can get very intense in peak periods and you have to stay at the top of your game as company standards are very high. No staff discount off shift- only meals on breaks. On the few occasions that I have been mistreated or verbally abused by customers, managers have failed to back me up or taken it as seriously as I would’ve liked, as customers are often prioritised over staff.

Best thing
The pay
Worst thing
Toxic atmosphere, get paid for 45 hours of work but actually worked around 60, no life balance, everyone is stressed, turn over always high or short staffed, higher managers don’t care about anyone else, very tiring work
Five Guys Assistant manager, February 2022
-
Best thing

Worst thing
Some times the days are really long because it’s a quiet day but nothing can be done about that

Best thing
Good pay, friendly staff
Worst thing
Long, physically intensive (at least 9hr) shifts with one half an hour break, opens start at 7am and closes end around 12am on weekdays and 1am on the weekend. Staff are expected to come in on their days off in order to be a ‘reliable member of staff’ or ‘team player’. Have witnessed multiple occasions where people are guilt tripped into close-opens or asked to stay from 7am-11pm. Despite a lack of training, newer staff are belittled for not knowing what to do or slowing things down. Corporate tries to push the ‘work family’ narrative in order to make people more lenient to being exploited by the company. Overall Five Guys is a very demanding employer and asks a lot more from their staff than many would be willing to give.

Best thing
Great work atmosphere, always motivated well by managers, great flexibility with shifts as much free food as we like within reason and the open and close shifts are much less demanding than other kitchens
Worst thing
too many staff hired so hard to find extra hours on top of minimum hours in a week, need to keep asking managers to complete your certifications (hourly pay increases with these certifications) they like to keep putting it off for some reason
Five Guys Crew member, February 2022
