Teaching assistant at the Education Authority Northern Ireland, January 2026

  • Best thing

People I work with and Teachers and staff

    Worst thing

Don't get enough holidays per year to cover the full holidays and staff training days as school is shut . Don't get full holidays until I'm there 5 years which is shocking as wee have to take unpayed leave after we reach our quota of holidays. So we are unpayed for 4 to 6days per year as if school was open we would be there . Only job I know has this in contract . Needs updated as we are in 2025

Cleaner at the Education Authority Northern Ireland, December 2025

  • Best thing

    Friendly environment
    Local to where I live
    Nice hours and good holidays

    Worst thing

Very underpaid for the work I carry out in my role as a SEN assistant. My roles and responsibilities can be very complex and challenging dealing with special needs children who can be aggressive and physically abusive due to their needs. This is not reflected in my wages. SEN assistants deserve to be on a much higher pay scale.

    Worst thing

They unpaid holiday leave, only having a term time contract, never getting the same pay every month, no chance to ever progress, very very poor wages. No real rights.
