Managers and section leaders have a go at people for talking

Best thing
Morale between colleagues. They are the true hero’s. Unrealistic expectations put upon them by clueless management who don’t see or choose not to see the reality of the business day in day out, and yet the colleagues still deliver to the best of their ability.
Worst thing
Power trip management who are only interested in their own careers at any cost.
Stress that comes with the job not considered important to management.
Unrealistic expectations.
Lack of colleagues to fulfil the customers needs.
Cuts to hours in every quarter due to “ the needs of the business” yet “the business” has just bought 100+ Co-Op stores!??
Nepotism within the business.
If your face fits!!!!!

Best thing
Getting to meet people new people who are working at the same level. Pay is good, holiday pay, free tea and coffee from the machine in the canteen, discounts.
Worst thing
The whole organisation workplace has gone downhill cuz of Less staff and more pressure to get lots of work done. Rude, disrespectful, Ignorant, arrogant, careless managers and the majority of the section leaders who don't care about your situation and will keep having attacking people verbally for slowing down at the shop floor and have multiple unnecessary meetings about your progress. I had 4 managers and 3 section leaders attack me and colleagues within the 4 hour shift. They treat you badly, expect you to be motivated and say that you can talk at work, in reality they have ago at you for talking and say "it's getting annoying" when you only talked once after your shift has finished. They take situations as excuses and all this stuff I wouldn't do if I was a manager or a section leader.
They say they are struggling with hours, get rid of people and the next minute they employ 2 new managers and employ more people in the same department (fire and rehire scheme). Overtime Bans, not enough hours available though they said there was plenty of hours, previous work benefits that were there are gone, miscommunication between all the management and team leaders, haven't responded to any feedback and still ignoring it.
Asda Employee, June 2023

Best thing
Uniform provided, pay, working with people, discounts, free hot drinks like tea or coffee.
Worst thing
Not certainty when you lose your job if contract is temporary. Managers and Section leaders are bad, really don’t care about what’s happening and state that valid reasons are just excuses. Unpaid breaks, overtime ban, facilities are not clean most of the time, annoying, boring and repetitive same old music played all the time, you don’t get enough hours when you want them, old technology still being used that isn’t reliable at times.
Asda Employee, June 2023
-
Best thing
Discounts, working with people, Free tea/coffee machine. Uniform provided.
Worst thing
Managers are disrespectful, rude, impatient and put people under pressure without understanding their situation. Like my friend had 5 managers and 3 team leaders saying he was slow just as he started his shift. Stock left lying around the floor at times is annoying as it’s difficult to get passed, overtime Ban, unpaid breaks, not enough hours available though they said there before recruiting.
Asda Customer service assistant, June 2023
-
Best thing
Discounts, free coffee from a machine, uniform given, paid on time, pay is good, getting to meet new people.
Worst thing
Managers and Section leaders are horrible as they keep picking on people to be fast regardless of their situation. Unorganised place, Items and pallets of the shop are a hazard to anyone who may not be watching as they are left on the floor.
Overtime ban, unpaid breaks, end of many other benefits that were there, facilities aren’t clean all the time, lack of communication, feedback is stated and not acted on.
Asda Employee, June 2023
-
Best thing
Being able to work with people who may already know and can meet new people who you can be friends with. Free Tea/Coffee machine, Discounts, TV at the Canteen if you want to watch the news, holiday pay.
Worst thing
Constantly being monitored, managers are disrespectful to people and pick on people a lot I.e 4 managers and 3 section leaders picked on me and others as soon as we got a login and started picking items off the shelf within our shift. They said your pick speed is too slow we need to meet the targets of 228 items in an hour. They don’t care about anyone’s valid situation if they have slower progress like they say fasting is an excuse for anything. They don’t seem to understand the operatives situation.
Unpaid breaks, Overtime Bans, Any tea/coffee from the machine that requires you to pay the taste is horrible, miscommunication between the management, not enough hours available though they said there was before recruiting, they get don’t like people to talk at work. Facilities like the toilets & locker rooms are not clean all the times, same music boring and demotivating type played everyday. Lots of feedback from colleagues voice surveys has been highlighted not acted on for a long time.

Staff discount
Free coffee/tea machine
Pay is good
TV is available at the Canteen if you want to watch the news.
Holiday pay
you can meet great peopleWorst thing
Management and Section leaders are disrespectful and most of them keep picking on people if they are slow without understanding their situation yet they do the work slow as they want to. Plus lots of miscommunication within the management. I had 4 managers and 3 Section leaders pick on me in one day within my 4-hour shift which ruined my day. They wanted continue picking on me my shift finished which meant I could go home and move away from place.
They don't consider Ramadan/fasting to be a reason for slow progress they call that an excuse and they seem to not understand or care about what struggles an operative goes through even if it's there first job.
Overtime Bans - I and others asked for more contracted hours before I could start, they said there was plenty of overtime available and then they banned it and said work contracted hours.
Unpaid breaks, same annoying and boring music played every time which demotivates people.
Asda Customer service assistant, June 2023

Best thing
Uniform is supplied, working shifts are standard times so you know where you stand, wages are paid on time.
Worst thing
Upper management are not interested in worker issues, you MUST work a weekend shift (even if you are a single parent), wages are below living wage, they are not very understanding of illness, as a driver your shift finishes once you have finished delivering not at you designated sign off time.

Best thing
The pay is pretty good especially for a full time student under 18 like myself and getting overtime is pretty easy
Worst thing
Organisation isn’t good at all, trying to take time off is nearly impossible and they don’t account for the fact that I’m in college eatery day that I don’t work
Asda Retail assistant, May 2023
-
Best thing
The fact that I have to rely on public transport to get around and they do keep that "somewhat" into account, also my constraints with the hours I can work are also noted.
Worst thing
Expect to never really be on your own department, getting an earful about the state of your department because you weren't on it, being given an hour to do everything on my department when i should've had several hours to do it all but were on another department, there are a few other minor inconveniences but that is neither here nor there.
