The benefits and everything is there, awesome people policies, as a company it is a very good company to work for

It’s not the company, it’s the people they employ, I have met some awesome managers but I have also met some of the worst.

Worst thing
We are understaffed, but told that they overspend on wages.
Basically pushing us to our limits and squeezing everything we've got out of us. At a huddle we've been told to look at each other and if we don't see our colleague red faced and sweaty, it means they don't work hard enough. Working on freezers, I've been asked, why am I wearing my fleece? I must not be working fast enough. We're questioned when falling behind 'case rate' - artificially created times in which we should complete our tasks, not taking in to account all the additional things we need to do. Like splitting pallets; walking between aisles (some departments are spread across 3, 4 aisles and you can have multiple pallets that would have items from each aisle on them); 'rumble' (clearing the empty boxes of the shelves); puting overs on the top shelf etc.Asda Retail assistant, March 2024

Best thing
The people that I work with are fantastic. my department manager and the night mangers are great and are very approachable.
Worst thing
Lack of colleague to get jobs done. More pressure being piled on the department and it’s definitely affecting the colleagues on the department. It’s frustrating that we can’t have adequate staffing levels and more staff trained up on different areas to take some of the workload off of fully skilled colleagues. Also the GSM is never anywhere to be seen.

Best thing
There aren't any great things.

The work, how under staffed we are, how badly we get treated by some of the managers. How you are made to feel guilty for stuff that isn't your fault

Best thing
Store staff are lovely and helpful when you get stuck or if you're unsure of certain things. The customers are lovely, too. You get to meet some regulars who greet you when they pop in.
Worst thing
Terrible management structure. Stressful targets to hit and little time to complete some jobs.
Some work practices seem rather unrealistic the type of work you do, and can be rather time consuming especially when you've already got a big work load to complete before the end of your day.Asda Employee, January 2024

Best thing
Getting work with people who I know or meet and if there is a moment of peace getting to do the job task.
Worst thing
Managers and section leaders are rude and disrespectful treating you badly on purpose by choice. Kept telling people that they are slow even if it’s their first job and no previous experience. They do probationary meetings and other meetings unnecessarily that blames you and ends up threatening your employment termination despite lots of tasks already been done even when they have 4 hour shift, bad contracted hours, lack of overtime, overtime ban, rude customers, hire and rehire schemes causing unnecessary pressures on everyone, unpaid breaks - Not recommended place to work for.

Underpaid for the increase workload.
Manager expects a managers job/role from colleagues but pays them minimum wage.
Overdemanding/entitled customers - worse since the pandemic - dealing with them is not worth the pay.
No growth opportunities - used to offer trainee technician role but scrapped it years ago as they would not pay trained technicians a fair wage & they would leave to get a much fairer wage.
Expects colleagues to do further training & reading in their own time for no
extra pay when they are paid so appallingly already for the over demanding job - no other colleague role in store expects training to be completed at home - only pharmacy.Asda Pharmacy dispenser, September 2023
