Best thing

Worst thing
Management not caring about us unless you are super close friends with them

Best thing
Fairly good pay, and paid breaks.
Worst thing
Area managers are condescending, discriminating, little or not enough hours, on basic contacted and sometimes even below weekly hours, to focused on the customers and not the staff running the business
Deputy store manager at Aldi, March 2025
-
Best thing
The team I work with are quite tight group, most get on well. Not really much else
Worst thing
The Hours are horrible, working a 10hr shift with 30 mins break?
The actual job it’s self is mind numbing, and not to mention 95% of the time you’re understaffed and overworked.
Constantly being told to be faster and better, “that’s not how we de-card” “20 mins a pallet” This is so unrealistic, not even managers hit that target yet they expect you to.
Customers think they own the place, although i understand this is probably the same with most customer based jobs.
Main takeaways are, you’re overworked, understaffed, and not given a proper break.
Also, not to mention that if you’re scheduled for a 12-10, you won’t be out the store til at least 20 past.Store assistant at Aldi, March 2025

Best thing
My team.
Worst thing
Underpaid, under appreciated, no loyality to long serving members of staff, little benefit to working with the company. Other departments don't get along. No positive feedback. No development.

Best thing
The team and the work itself. There is always somthing to do

Best thing
genuinely nothing. if compared to the average retail job. (no discount, short breaks, horrible managment) I know im gonna get labelled as an angry disgruntled employee but on the surface I smile and get on with everybody (att least epople think I do). This job is just so horrible with terrible managment and a toxic work place
Worst thing
I have worked for several retailers across the uk and aldi is by far the worse. They try and sell it to you that they do twice the work with half the staff and that if you don't like it your not made for the job. This is just to deflect from the fact that you are getting payed minimum wage to work twice as hard and treated so badly by management. Always told your not quick enough. Some of the managers like to boast about how much money the store is made throughout the day like I care (like I literally know one that just said it "stinks of money" like hes making it) Im constantly talked down to and patronised at this job. I only got given a 30min break for an 12h shift but its paid so thats...great. At this job im constantly made to feel like im not enough. its made me so unhappy. Aldi claim to be a great work place but its the worse most toxic enviroment I have ever worked in.

Worst thing
Shift changes to often
Changes to rota
Working late without being asked its expected
Lack of understanding if you are a single parent as childcare needs to be in place and then too often shifts are changed.
Lack of support and low understanding of staff with addition needs despite Aldi having a good understanding of this on their online training, however it is not practiced amongst management.
No physical training no demonstrations on how to use equipment everything is online training which you are expected to do in your own time.
A lot of accidents with pallets .
Management bark orders they have no manners no one says please or thank you, however constant criticism of what staff are not doing very well on.
Very unprofessional ways of communicating there is no system to contact via Email it is a WhatsApp system and often management Read your messages and leave you on read.
Unfriendly environment a lot of Bulkying and BitchingStore assistant at Aldi, January 2024

Best thing
Pay, as most comments are here.
Solid team, there’s an ethic to some that is unmatchable.
Helping local communities/foodbanks/too good to go scheme is solid.Worst thing
Higher management, area management. Most are new to role, without a clue as to how retail actually works. It’s just spreadsheet management.
Issues with productivity to people, O.E can fluctuate but the people aren’t there; as you cannot backfill; therefore you have to suffer.
No correct initial training or support; if I hadn’t had previous job roles when asked to join the company, I’d have sunk and been allowed to.
Was poached to join, had several things offered to me during the interview process, which have now been completely forgotten about. I was sold a picture that was incredibly untrue, and now I am regretting doing so.
Mental health/work life balance is non-existent. Just turn up; switch off and crack on. As long as the train keeps rolling; you’re just another number.
Constantly brought up by senior staff due to being employed on higher pay and my salary spread to the mgmt team; isn’t that breach of gdpr? Feel like it’s used as leverage.
No real HR system or actual knowledge of HR processes, especially within management teams and disciplinary processes, especially from what i’ve heard and seen.Assistant manager at Aldi, November 2023

Worst thing
Customers and military standards
Store assistant at Aldi, September 2023
-
Best thing
The pay is slightly better than pay at other leading supermarkets and the team with a couple exemptions is fun to work with.
Worst thing
The pay does not reflect the outrageous amount of work that is expected of staff. You are ran into the grind without proper breaks, expected to work 3 jobs at once including cleaning, stock, and managing a till in incredibly busy stores. This not only infuriates customers but staff also
Store assistant at Aldi, August 2023
