Did you know that January is one of the busiest times for job searching? Here are our tips to make sure you have a productive job search in January 2023
1. Know what matters to you and what you are looking for
This may sound obvious but knowing what you are looking for in a job can save you a lot of time and help make sure you find one that is good for you.
Are you looking for flexibility? Do you want a job with good shift notice? Is free food on shift important to you? Are you looking for a job that isn't stressful?
Understanding your needs helps you filter jobs and stops you from applying for roles that aren't suitable. For example, if you are a parent why not check out jobs on Breakroom that have been recommended as good for parents by parents who actually work there?
2. Give yourself some time
Set yourself some realistic goals and give yourself some time to achieve them. One of the hardest things about looking for a new job is actually finding the time to do it. Set yourself some time aside to focus on looking for jobs but make sure you keep to that time frame.
For example, set yourself a couple of hours a couple of times a week to look for a new job, that way you won't get overwhelmed and you'll also stay focused. It'll also help you stay motivated if you don't overdo it.
3. Search smart, not hard
Once you know what you are looking for from your next job save the search and set up alerts so you get an email letting you know when new jobs that match your search are posted.
4. Do your research
Don't trust the job advert, do your own research. Find out what others say about working there. The Breakroom community has rated over 3,000 UK employers, with over 440,000 shift workers having taken the Breakroom Quiz.
You can find out what it is really like to work at an employer and read best and worst reviews from the people who work there. Search for an employer and find out how our community has rated them.
5. Stay motivated
New year, new you! Just remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. The most important thing is to get a job that is right for you 🫵
Don't rush and don't get disheartened if you don't get the first job you apply for. Right now is one of the busiest times of year for job seekers and new jobs are being added all the time. You can keep up-to-date with highly rated jobs by visiting here.
Remember, we also include an estimated pay range for all jobs, even if the pay isn’t in the job advert you'll still have an idea of what you'll be earning. Make sure you find the right job by filtering jobs by what matters to you. Things like do they pay breaks? Are all ages are paid the same? and how much notice do you get for your shifts?
